Background
Avondale.AI was founded on a simple principle: if it can't run without the internet, it shouldn't be in the stack. That principle comes from 38 years of building infrastructure that had to work when connectivity failed, when budgets shrank, and when the threat model demanded sovereignty over convenience.
The founder's career spans kernel-level security architecture to enterprise AI infrastructure — from building custom exploit-avoidance systems on bare metal to deploying sovereign AI platforms for defense contractors. The common thread across every role: build systems that don't depend on anyone else's infrastructure, don't leak data to third parties, and don't break when the internet goes down.
Experience
Began following open-source LLM research after tracking NVIDIA's AI research initiatives (2016-2017). Built a sovereign AI platform from the ground up: local inference, vector search, document intelligence, RAG pipelines, and security monitoring — all running on self-owned infrastructure with zero cloud dependency. Currently deploying this platform for defense contractors and regulated industries.
Started with Banyan Vines and Oracle environments, migrating legacy networks to TCP/IP during the early Windows NT era. Evolved through full enterprise stack: Microsoft 365, Intune, Entra ID, endpoint security, compliance frameworks (NIST 800-171, CMMC 2.0). Network architecture, vulnerability assessment, and remediation planning for regulated environments handling controlled unclassified information.
Started with NetWare, OS/2, and early TCP/IP networking in the late 1980s. Progressed through the security stack evolution as it developed: early firewalls and packet filtering (1990s), IPSec and VPN tunnels, enterprise firewalls (Check Point, Cisco, Juniper in late 1990s-2000s; Palo Alto, FortiGate in 2010s), kernel-level packet filtering and custom modules (eBPF/XDP in 2020s), exploit-avoidance architecture, ML-enhanced intrusion detection, and custom security solutions that reduced licensing costs while improving detection capability.
Started with vanilla hosting on FreeBSD and OpenBSD — hand-built servers, manual DNS, Sendmail, Apache, and FTP services with no control panels. Migrated to Linux as it matured, then adopted early control panel platforms (cPanel emerged late 1990s) as the industry shifted from manual administration to managed hosting. Positions were earned through demonstrated competence and aligned trust — not resumes or third-party certifications. Managed everything from small business networks to multi-server hosting platforms.

Avondale.AI doesn't just implement existing technology — we identify gaps in specialized domains and build solutions to fill them. When the market offers nothing that meets our security, sovereignty, or compliance requirements, we build it ourselves. The Sovereign AI IT Platform is the direct result of this approach: no mid-market sovereign AI solution existed for defense contractors, so we built one.

Every solution is validated in production on our own infrastructure before deployment to clients. We run what we build. If it doesn't work for us, it doesn't ship.
Open Source Stewardship
Open source is often abused — developers invest their time building tools that benefit the masses, yet rarely receive anything in return. We do the opposite. When we deploy an open-source solution to a client, a percentage of the revenue is returned directly to the developers or the project. We never strip credits, never rebrand someone else's work, and never claim authorship of code we didn't write. Leave it better than you found it, if possible.
DoD Clearance Status
TS/SCI eligible. Active DoD IT contractor with direct experience supporting defense industrial base clients in NIST 800-171, NIST 800-53, and CMMC 2.0 compliance. All client data handled under non-disclosure agreements. Background check and clearance verification available upon request through proper channels.
That's the principle that drives every architecture decision. Not because the internet is bad — because depending on it for everything creates risk. Sovereign infrastructure means you control your data, your processing, and your uptime. Cloud is a tool, not a dependency. When you build that way, you discover you need cloud far less than vendors want you to believe.
Our Position 🇺🇸
We are a proud United States company. We do not ship our products outside the United States. We do not deploy on foreign soil or at any facility outside sovereign United States territory, with the exception of United States government facilities abroad and Native American Indian Reservations, where we proudly support and assist tribal communities wherever we can.
We support regulation based on objective data sovereignty criteria: where data is processed, whether it is transmitted to external services, and whether the system depends on third-party infrastructure. AI systems that operate entirely within a client's access-controlled infrastructure with no external data transmission should not be subject to regulation designed for platforms that process and transmit data externally. Subjective risk assessments that vary by assessor, budget, or political pressure create compliance barriers that disproportionately affect smaller providers and independent developers.
This is what sovereign means.
